Badaweyah dancing to Adaweyya by Mohamed Roshdi. Performed at The Casbah Tent Theatre, 2009.
Baligh Hamdy’s first offering to Umm Kulthum in 1960 was a watershed moment in Egyptian music history. Not only was it a great success – he would compose ten more songs for her in the ensuing eleven years, but, after an entire decade of performing exclusively to Riad Al Sunbati compositions, Hobb Eih marked the first time that any of the brilliant younger generation of Egyptian composers had collaborated with the Star of the Orient. Badaweyah taught her choreography to Hobb Eih at a workshop in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA.
